Raw Materials Pigments Powder Testing Method

Raw materials pigment powder testing method in Tinting/depth/tone/ Strength

a)   Make a 500-gram lab batch taking the supplied pigment powder by following the B.M.R of respective colors in the lab.

Test the solid, pH, and Viscosity and try to match with B.M.R. when the lab batch is totally matched with the B.M.R mentioned specs for solid, pH & viscosity then take the lab sample for checking for tinting/depth/ strength & tone. In all cases, apply sufficient mechanical stirring to the Bulk Pigment Paste and White pigment paste to ensure full homogenization, before sampling for testing.

b)  Mix 20g + 0.02g of the YORCOL-produced pigment under test with 100g + 0.02g of   Standard

YORCOLA-WHITE, in a 250ml, curved-bottomed, glass beaker. Repeat using a sample of the

standard pigment.  Make sure that these mixtures have 5000-7000cps viscosity in Brookfield

viscometer in spindle no 62 at 30 R.P.M. Ensure that both beakers are clearly labeled "Standard" or

"Sample".

c)      Mix 7g + 0.02g of the lab-produced YORCOL A-WHITE pigment under test with 13g + 0.02g of STANDARD  YORCOL A-DEEP BLACK, in a 50ml, curved bottomed, glass beaker. Repeat using a sample of the standard pigment. Ensure that both beakers are clearly labeled "Standard" or "Sample". Use “booted” rods to ensure complete mixing.

d)      Clip a White drawdown card onto the coating bed and place a sheet of scrap paper under the card so that the bottom part of the bed is covered. Spot the mixes onto the card as indicated:(The spots should be large enough for the mixes to touch when drawn down.)

a)      Using a No. 6 K Bar, draw down the pigment spots to the bottom of the card, keeping a firm

even pressure across the bar.

b)      Remove the card from the bed and dry it in a hot (110°C) oven for 2 minutes. Allow the card to

cool for 5 minutes and compare the test pigment with the standard.

WASH THE BAR COATER THOROUGHLY.

c)      Test the strength and DE using the spectrophotometer.

d)      Record results in the QC Results file.

PRODUCT TEST METHOD

TEST NAME: Tinting Strength - PIGMET A-WHITE Pigments

METHOD:

In all cases, apply sufficient mechanical stirring to the Bulk Pigment Paste to ensure full homogenization, before sampling for testing.

a)      Mix 7g + 0.02g of the produced PIGMET A-WHITE pigment under test with 13g + 0.02g of PIGMET A-DEEP BLACK, in a 50ml, curved-bottomed, glass beaker. Repeat using a sample of the standard pigment. Ensure that both beakers are clearly labeled "Standard" or "Sample". Use “booted” rods to ensure complete mixing.
