To provide the SOP for the operation, maintenance, and calibration of the Bursting Strength Tester.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This procedure applies to the Bursting Strength Tester used in the packaging laboratory of the quality control department at QC. The instrument is used for the measurement of the bursting strength of paper & corrugated boxes.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 QC
Chemists Lab analyst follows the SOP.
3.2 Head- QA & QC for implementation of SOP.
4.0 Operating Procedure
4.1 Switch on the mains and switch on the Display button & bursting strength tester button.
4.2 Turn the clamping wheel in an anticlockwise direction to raise it upward.
4.3 Take a sample to be tested and place it over the diaphragm plate. Lower the clamping wheel downward to fix the sample.
4.4 After fixing the sample in the bursting strength tester checks the memory of the instrument help of the display button and clears the memory help of the tare Button.
4.5 Press the Red Color start button “Push for burst” and keep pressing till the sample bursts. Record the maximum value shown by BS Display at which the sample bursts in kg/cm2.
4.6 Release the pressure by turning the clamp wheel in an upward direction and removing the sample.
4.8 Check the sample reading in the BS Taster Display.
4.7 Operation details shall be entered in the Instrument log book.
4.8 Do Not use the Instruments switch off the instrument.
5.0 Calibration Procedure
5.1 Instrument calibration shall be performed within the calibration window of ± 7 days from the due date of calibration.
5.2 Check the bursting strength of standard aluminum foil foil used shall be 9.5 ± 0.4 kg/cm2./13.5± 0.5 kg/cm2
5.3 Monitor the readings shown by the external agency during its calibration and check with specified Acceptance criteria.
5.4 Check the calibration reports given by the external agency for their traceability.
5.5 If the instrument does not comply with the specified acceptance criteria, the instrument shall be quarantined and labeled as out of calibration. In such an incidence, of calibration procedure described in the general calibration procedure shall be followed.
