Determine Of Neutralization Value and Accelerated Aging Test of Soap

Neutralization number or acid number or acidity is the mass of potassium hydroxide (KOH) in mg. that is required to neutralize one gram of chemical Soap bar and soap noodle.

 {tocify} $title={Table of Contents}

Reagents

a. Neutralized rectified spirit.

b. 0.1 N Sodium hydroxide solution

c. Phenolphthalein indicator solution

Neutralization Value Testing Procedure

1. Weigh accurately about 1 gm of the fatty acid obtained in case of Total Fatty Matter content determination in a 250 ml conical flask.

2. Dissolve the fatty acid in 100 ml neutralized Rectified Spirit by heating gently.

3. Titrate the content with 0.1 N Sodium Hydroxide using Phenolphthalein as an indicator.

Calculate neutralization value

                                 56.1 x V x N

Neutralisation value = -------------------

                                     W

V = Volume of 0.1 N Sodium Hydroxide solution required for titration.

N = Normality of 0.1 N Sodium Hydroxide solution.

W = Weight of fatty acid taken in gm.

Determine Of Neutralization Value and Accelerated aging test for Soap

Accelerated Aging Test Procedure

Scope: This test method applies for conducting the Accelerating aging test or Accelerated aging test standard in Toilet Bar Soaps as well as for Soap Noodles

The soap bars both under test and standard should be placed in a clean jar fitted with a lid. The sample should then be placed in an evenly heated, well-regulated oven at 110 degrees F for one week. At the end of the test period, remove the jar from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature before opening. Remove the soap and evaluate the color.

Examine all stamped surfaces for discolored spots or other signs of bad aging characteristics. Also, compare the fragrance of the aged samples with a duplicate soap bar that has been well-protected in foil and refrigerated.

Accelerated Aging Test : (Soap Noodles)

Accelerated Aging Test methods :

A sufficient quantity of soap noodles sample under test and standard should be placed in a clean jar fitted with a lid. The sample should then be placed in an evenly heated, well-regulated oven at 110 degrees F for one week. At the end of the test period, remove the jar from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature before opening.
