Batch and Semi Batch Reactor and Working and Advantages and Disadvantages

In this type of reactor, the properties of the reaction mixture keep changing with time. In this reactor, the reactor stages keep changing with time. In this type of reactor, after filling the reactants, they are left to react for some time, then the product is discharged.

Thus there is an unsteady state operation in the reactor. According to this, the composition changes with time, at any given time the composition at any point in the reactor remains the same. In this, the reaction time and response time are the same.

Batch and Semi Batch Reactor and Working and Advantages and Disadvantages

The advantages and disadvantages of batch reactor

Advantages of Batch Reactor

i). Its construction is simple.

ii). It can be operated easily.

iii). Cast is less as compared to other reactors.

iv). It is flexible for operation.

Disadvantage of Batch Reactor

i). Labor charges are higher per unit volume production.

ii). Not suitable for large-scale production.

iii). It is difficult to get the same quality product from different batches.

Semi Batch Reactor

In this type of reactor, one reactant is changed initially and the other reactant is continuously added based on a fixed period. In this type of reactor, the reaction speed can be easily controlled. Because the added reactant can be increased by adding more or less accordingly.

For example, when the heat or temperature of the reaction becomes high, it can be controlled by adding more or less added reactant.

Semi Batch Reactor

Advantages of Semi Reactor

i). Reaction speed can be easily controlled.

ii). Construction is simple.

iii). Temperature can be controlled easily.

Disadvantage of Semi Reactor

i). Its disadvantage is similar to batch reactors.

Continuous Batch Reactor

In this type of reactor, the process happens in parallel, there is no time wasted on non-productive operations.

Advantages of Continuous Batch Reactor

i). It is suitable for large production.

ii). This does not waste time on non-productive operations.

iii). For per unit volume production, labor charges are less as compared to batch reactor.

iv). The quality of the product is good and the same.

Disadvantage of Semi-Batch Reactor

i). Initial cast is high. Expectation of batch reactor.
